Pets like to get into the spirit of the holiday season as well by dressing up special occasions. A Santa hat or outfit is a festive way to include dogs in family celebrations.

The holidays are a time when most of us make sure our wardrobe is up-to-date with fun, festive outfits for all the parties, concerts and family gatherings we schedule on our calendars this time of year.
However, we're not alone. Even the four-legged family members are looking their best for the holidays thanks to all the party dresses, reindeer costumes and suits specially made for canines. Patty Livernois, who co-owns The Uppity Puppy in Royal Oak with Kim O'Brien, said many people consider their pets part of the family.
Since every one else in the family is likely getting new party clothes, the family dogs are included. And don't forget about those holiday photos with the family pet. Special outfits are needed for those as well, said Marcie Theisen, owner of Bow Meow in Royal Oak.
Livernois said party dresses in traditional holiday colors like red and green are popular at the store for the girls as are suits for the guys. Turning many heads as well are festive handcrocheted holiday sweaters that are made by The Uppity Puppy. These are on display at the store in red and green colors with poinsettia buttons, but can also be custom ordered, so they can fit any size dog, said Livernois.

Theisen said sweaters and sweatshirts with holiday motifs like snowflakes, candy canes and Christmas trees are in demand as are the ever popular Santa and Rudolph outfits.
"They're really cute and people like dressing dogs up for the holidays," said Theisen. "Every dog looks cute in a Santa hat."
Of course, no outfit is complete without accessories. Jeweled collars are very in style as are bows and other hair fashions. A cute hair accessory is a bow accentuated with feathers, said Livernois.
While dressing your dog in holiday finery is certainly fun, there's also a practical side, said Livernois. Clothing such as fleece coats can keep beloved pets warm and boots can protect their paws from winter weather hazards.
