UPCOMING PET EVENTS

  • Pet Supplies "Plus" will be sponsoring a cookout for pets and people at the White Lake store on Highland Road from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 6 to benefit local animal rescue groups. The store will be cooking up Natural Balance meat rolls for dogs and hot dogs for the pet owners. All proceeds from the barbeque will benefit the K-9 Stray Rescue League of Michigan and the Elizabeth Lake Animal Rescue Group. The event will also help keep pets healthy. The Union Lake Veterinary Hospital will be on hand for free nose to toe health checks for any pet attending. Distemper and rabies vaccinations will be available for a fee of $15 each. Also, feline leukemia and heartworm tests will be available for a fee of $15. Heartworm pills will be available for purchase. Groomers will also be on hand for nail clippings and ear cleanings; a portion of the $10 fee will benefit the rescue groups attending the event. Dog licenses will be available for White Lake residents with proof of rabies vaccination or rabies vaccination on the day of the event.   • Paws With a Cause® will host its Sixth Annual SE Michigan Laps for Learning® PAWS® Walk and Dog Extravaganza from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The event will take place at Starr Jaycee Park, 13 Mile Road, east of Crooks Road in Royal Oak. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome, including the family dog. The day's activities include the PAWS Walk; games and contests for dogs and humans; food, merchandise and informational booths; and demonstrations of Police K-9s at work, flyball, obedience, search and rescue and more.   • The 8th annual Bark in the Park presented by 93.1 Doug FM and 96.3 WDVD FM will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 12 and 13 at Stony Creek MetroPark at Baypoint Beach. Test your dog's jumping skills at the Splash Dogs dock, catch the Rock n' Roll K9's performance and visit the pet pavilion for great items and services for your pets. Dogs are welcome and must be on a leash. Cost is a $4 park admission or use your Metro Parks Year Pass. The Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) will also be on hand with pets available for adoption. MARL is a non-profit organization that rescues, shelters and finds safe, permanent homes for abandoned cats and dogs in the Metro Detroit area.   • The Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association will present the SEMVMA Golf Outing at Tanglewood Golf Course in South Lyon on Aug. 16. Proceeds to benefit Leader Dogs. Call 1-888-736-8625 for additional information.
