Pooch-A-Palooza at Detroit Riverfront

Organizers of Detroit International River Days, presented by General Motors, and the YMCA Renaissance Center, invite dog owners to explore the new Detroit RiverWalk with their "best friends" in the Pooch-A-Palooza Pet Walk, June 24.
The two-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. at the GM Promenade. Participants will walk west to Cobo Hall and back east to the new Rivard Plaza & Pavilion and then back to the GM Promenade. The one mile walk begins at 9:30 a.m., with walkers traveling from the GM Promenade to the Rivard Plaza and Pavilion and back.
To take part in the event, each walking participant must be registered. However, the number of dogs is not limited per person, and up to six family members can walk together for one registration fee. A single registration costs $15 and a family registration costs $25. Day-of registration for both walks begins at 8:30 a.m. at the GM Promenade.To register online or for more information, contact the YMCA at (313) 309-3377 or at www.ymcadetroit.org. Participants can walk with or without a dog, but all pets must be on a leash.
The rest stop at Rivard Plaza & Pavilion will have drinks and snacks, while gifts for registered walkers (dogs included) as well as contests, prizes and celebrity judges can be found at the GM Promenade. Canine to Five: Detroit Dog Daycare will also be providing "PETicures" for your pooch and free pet pictures. The winner of the Dog Look-a-Like Contest at 10 a.m., where owners benefit from resembling their furry friend, takes home a grand prize of dinner for four at Andiamo. Talented pups can win their owners a grand prize of a 3-month Family Association Membership at any YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the Best Dog Trick Contest at 10:15 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m., a Doggie Dance will be held at the GM Promenade.
