Summer is fun for both people and pets, so grab your beloved pet and share some fun in the sun together during the Summerfest 2nd Annual Pet Parade & Pet Adoptions event June 29.

People of all ages are welcome to enter their pet in the parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. June 29 at the Village Center in Auburn Hills.

"This is a fun event for the family as part of Summerfest," said Karen Adcock, senior services director in Auburn Hills.

Last year about a dozen pets and the pet guardians attended the event, she said.

"It was a great day. People love their animals," said Adcock.

Pets can dress up and have the chance to win prizes. Contest categories include: largest, smallest, cutest, most unusual and best costume.

All pets - from dogs, cats, goldfish and more - are welcome to participate in the pet parade as long as they are leashed or contained, she said.

The parade route will go from the Mom's Memorial in the Village Center, Auburn Hills to Riverside Park. It's about a 15 minute walk, said Adcock.

After the parade, check out the Michigan Cat Rescue, the K9 Rescue League and more that will be showcasing animals that will be available for adoption.

Please keep in mind there will be a crowd at the pet parade. If your pet does not react well to crowds, people or other animals, this parade may not be right for your pet.

Consider these parade rules as well:

  • Bring proof of vaccines or current dog license

  • Must register by 5:45 p.m. the day of the event behind Mom's Memorial in the Village Center.

  • Children under 7 must be escorted by an adult

  • Keep pet leashed (no flexi leads) or contained at all times

  • Must clean up after pet

  • Pets must bring their owners to walk in the parade. Pets must be on a leash or contained to participate in the parade.

To pre-register or for more information, call (248) 370-9353.
