Local Statistical Snapshot
For the second year in a row, the German Shepherd Dog is tops in Detroit, joining Miami as the only other city that placed this lovable herding breed at number one.
The Shih Tzu hit the Top 5 for the first time beating out its own national ranking at number nine.
Popularity of the Cocker Spaniel continues to rise in Detroit from ninth last year to a tie for 6th with the Golden Retriever, which ranks much lower on Detroit's radar than its nationwide placement at number 4.
Least registered in the 'Motor City' are the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, the Collie and the Shiba Inu.
"Motown sent the Shih Tzu and the Cocker Spaniel up the charts this year," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "The popularity of these medium-sized breeds with their stylish coats makes them the perfect choice for dog owners that want to stand out in a crowd."
